Has America almost taken over the world with Elon Musk X PayPal?

After extensive research into non-American passive drop shippers and Canadian affiliate programs, I have come to a concerning realization: the dominance of American e-commerce, facilitated by PayPal, is pervasive on a global scale.

 

In my efforts to market and sell products on various platforms, I have found that Canadian and international transactions predominantly rely on PayPal as the sole payment option. Personally, I prefer the traditional methods of receiving payments, such as checks, wire transfers, or email bank deposits, as they eliminate the need for a potentially intrusive intermediary.


Moreover, PayPal now requires a significant amount of personal information that many of us in the online business community are hesitant to provide to a company founded partly by Elon Musk. Do not get me started on Elon, I used to make Elon Musk fan art and SEND IT TO HIM. Without disclosing this sensitive information, I am now unable to access my commissions and royalties. This situation is particularly frustrating, as it undermines years of effort spent building online shops and developing products. Consequently, I am unable to receive payments for purchases made by customers or for clicks on numerous affiliate links.

 

It is important to note that PayPal is not a bank; it is a payment service. Have you taken the time to read the reviews?


Having utilized their services for over 20 years, I have encountered numerous challenges that have led me to rate them a 1 out of 5. This rating reflects my dissatisfaction with various aspects of their service, although I must commend the customer service representative I recently spoke with, who was exceptional in her assistance.

 

It raises a pertinent question: Why has PayPal positioned itself as a middleman in so many businesses worldwide?

 

Unfortunately, this month, some of my own businesses faced significant disruptions due to issues with PayPal.

Absolutely disgusting experience with PayPal lately

We've been using PayPal for YEARS. Literally one of our main payment plugin for our online store, moved close to a million through them. Never had a major issue. Then suddenly – boom – account permanently limited. No real explanation, no warning, nothing we can do. Just a cold message saying we’re banned and gotta wait 180 DAYS to access our funds. That’s our business cashflow locked. Staff to pay. Orders to fulfill. Doesn’t matter.Tried to refund a customer and guess what? We can’t. Support told us to ask the customer to open a dispute so we could refund it that way... but we can't even click to accept the dispute or refund inside it! And then we get slapped with a dispute fee on top of it??? What kind of joke is this?So now the customer has to wait WEEKS for the dispute to auto-resolve, while we look like scammers. All because PayPal blocked us and won’t even let us refund people directly.This isn’t just frustrating, it's completely unacceptable. You build a business, you trust a platform, you play by the rules, and then they just kill it overnight with no chance to appeal or fix it.I wouldn’t recommend PayPal to any serious business anymore. There’s zero support, zero fairness, and they hold YOUR money like it’s theirs.Never again.

Very naughty! I got an email offering me £5 off when I purchased something via PayPal. No stipulations. But, it turns out there are stipulations that they didn't tell you about!!!! Third party company was able to set.up…

Third party company was able to set.up a subscription payment of 20 dollars while performing a transaction were I agreed to a 0.99 payment. There was no notification or separate email sent by PayPal for the subscription . Pretty much they encourage third party to take how much money they want from your account. When I disputed the payment they said to take it with the merchant. Pretty sloppy on PayPal account, I expected more security and customer protection. I will stop using PayPal, going back to credit card. Much easier to deal with unwanted transactions

PYPAL TURNED INTO SCAM

im paypal customer for over 20 years now. It use to be the most reliable and safe way to pay or get payment online. I used paypal for business as well as buying customer. Over those years I had contact with CS team and most of the times matter was solved with in hours, max days. Unfortunately that does not apply anymore. Paypal from innovative market leader turned into scamming tool. I had a couple of bad experiences over last time and the last one really overwhelmed me totally. I purchased stuff online, Basket, address, pay paypal, total figure was presented on sellers web and when was transferred to paypal to confirm payment the figure there was also the same. Gave authorisation, got email with invoice from seller as well as email from paypal to confirm transaction success. 15 minutes after paypal sent me another email with post factum information that that have issued much higher payment to the seller as per seller request. Immediately contacted CS, Firstly had to go through the fire wall of AI service that is a complete joke ( i believe the only reason of that toll is to get customer tired enough to drop any requests), but finally after long time completed dispute. Few weeks after i got the refund for the overcharge. After some time i had to contact customer services again regards that transaction because my product never arrived and i had no info from seller regards post track os something. I could not open the dispute on same transaction again because it was already closed for the overcharge, and AI did not understand. So was transferred to the human agent who was responding with prescribed messages totally not about the subject. Decided to contact CS on phone, after my waiting time got through the person, obviously not the right peron in wrong department so was transferred to the different one. Unfortunately this person was also not the one who can deal with the case and had to transfer me again. During those transfers call was dropped a couple of times. After 3 hours and dozen of incorrect agents and wrong departments i got through someone who took action and promised me that whole refund will be issued. And it was but not the right amount, because refund i received this time was the total on the original invoice ( the amount i agreed to pay ) deducted by the overcharge that was taken with out my concern, so I was still short the original overcharge amount. So contacted paypal again, and again had to be transferred from agent to agent, 5 maybe 6 times. Than agent informed me that I got received my refund in full already and if i have any more disputes about this transition he suggest to contact seller directly as there is nothing else he can do. That was really to much for me. After more transfers and waiting time i finally spoke with some who agreed to issue refund for the balance ( that was taken from my account with out my concern and the amount was never mentioned on the invoice) as a gesture of god will, a gesture of good will, do you get it?Long storey short :Paypal IS NOT SAFE WAY TO PAY ONLINE, IT IS NOT CHEAPER ANYMORE AND THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE GOT AI FIREWALL TO BOUNCE AWAY CUSTOMER REQUESTS AND IF YOU LUCKY ENOUGH TO SPEAK WITH HUMAN THEY TAKE NO ACTION EXEPT CALL TRANSFER TO DIFFERENT AGENT WHO ALSO DO NOT GIVE A DAMN ABOUT YOU, AND EVEN IF HE DO HE HAS NO AUTHORITY TO DO ANYTHING DUE TO COMPANY POLICY>DO NOT USE PAYPAL,

Many years ago, PayPal was great. I had an account with them. I tried to close it. I attempted MANY TIMES to close the account. I was not allowed to close it. Trying to reach a human being that could help can literally take over an hour, with interminable music waits. I was informed my account had restrictions, but couldn't figure out why. They stated I did not owe them any money. Finally, they told me I would have to send them my social security number and a copy of a government photo id to close it. I refused, threatening reports to the **********************************, ****** and others. It was truly maddening. It seemed to me that they were forcing me to keep a credit account, with zero balance, open. After multiple attempts, spanning literally months, I was finally able to get them to close my account. I want nothing to do with these people. **************** is HORRIBLE. I cannot tell you how bad it is. Plus, I felt that they were trying to extort information out of me that I did not wish to give; and thay they were trying to keep another open credit account. Folks, the only way to stop this stuff is to cancel any business you have with them. They are atrocious. Also, I can't understand why I can't find a way to do a ****** Review on them.

I made an account with ********************** years ago and never used it. Someone got into my account and created a bitcoin or whatever its called crypto and somehow jacked up my account leaving me with a balance of $163 that I have to pay. I keep calling them to resolve the issue and they never fix it. I was scammed and they want me to put my bank information in there so I can pay. Im not doing that. I didnt cause all that. they admitted to seeing all that has happened and still want me to pay the $163 because they cant get it back from the scammer. Mind you my Social Security number is on there. So be worn before making a PayPal account.

I have been using PayPal for my business for the past 6 months with zero issues and worked perfectly until now. I review was triggered for my business account and now keeps dragging on past reasonable times to be fixed. I turned in all information needed immediately and have spoken with customer service everyday to get this resolved. They explain to me different information every time. We go from 3 days to review to 5-7 days and now were going on three weeks with no genuine date of being fixed. We have have processed 200k in the last 6 months and now are having 20k held for these three weeks. I understand a review but to drag this long is not reasonable. We were unable to make our recent payroll because PayPal did not meet the completion dates like we were told several times. We now have a great employee leaving our business because our hard earned money is being held ****** at this point. We also cannot fulfill the hard working orders we received and now will cause a chain reaction for us not delivering and losing great credibility to our customers. With this money being held we see this also causing customers to be upset and starting disputes and causing a terrible chain reaction. We trusted PayPal with our business dealing and now are destroying our company. We have spoken with several legal representatives and looks to have legal recourse for the actions PayPal have taken. If they would have just followed the timelines were were told the entire time things would be working like normal and everyone wins but with PayPal and the customer service run around everyday we have lost their trust to take care of our business dealings.

They lock your account with all of your earnings, money or invest money, I had identity to happen to me with PayPal and reimburse and put my account on restriction did not even investigate. Any of my claims did not do and misled how to file dispute.

PayPal pretends my password is wrong, so I'm locked out

 

I recently tried to log in to PayPal. I use a password manager, so I know 100% that my password is correct, but PayPal pretended it was wrong and thus I could not get into my account.

A few days later, I tried again with the same result. This time, I reset my password. It worked perfectly but they pulled the same trick and pretended my password was wrong when I entered it. Again, it was 100% correct.

The wonderful thing about PayPal is that it's impossible for me to fix this problem because I cannot send them a message without logging in! If I use their AI message system, it just tells me to log in. (Great customer service as always!!!)

Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this? And yes, I assume my inbox will be blitzed by scammers...

Getting tons of (phishing??) emails from verified Paypal email

 

(I wish I could attach photos to this post!)

Since yesterday I've gotten 5 emails from service @ paypal . com, however the recipient of each email is never my email address, it seems like I'm BCC'd on the emails.

Each email says that this was "my" note to the person I "sent" money to:

"PayPal has detected some unusual activity on your account. After sending money, someone has archived the transaction history, making it invisible to you. If you did send money, please ignore this message. However, if you did not send any money, please call immediately at-I(888) 928 7O78 to request a refund."

Each "payment" is for $399 or $299.

I've gone into my Paypal account (and I did not click on any links in any of the emails!), I can't find anything archived, and none of the transaction IDs are showing anything.

I did change my Paypal password to be extra safe.

Is anyone else getting these emails? Is there any way to stop them? It really looks like they are real Paypal emails, there's even a blue star next to the email address in my gmail and it says it's verified. I don't want to block legit Paypal emails from going through, but getting 3x emails a day is starting to be extra annoying.

PayPal screwed my business again

 

So I run a real estate cold calling company, and normally we get paid in crypto. I know it's not the most "professional" setup, but if you're in Egypt, you already know how much of a nightmare it is to receive international payments through traditional methods.

Anyway, one client couldn’t do crypto and insisted on PayPal. I agreed, he sent the payment, and right after, PayPal asked me to verify my identity. No problem, I uploaded my driver's license and gave them some basic info about my business.

Literally a minute later, I got a notification saying my account is permanently limited and I can't use PayPal anymore. No explanation. No appeal option. I tried everything, there's no way to contact a real person.

I don’t care about the account, I just need the money that’s stuck there. I’ve got a dialer subscription to pay for and agents waiting on their cut.

Has anyone actually managed to resolve this kind of issue with PayPal? Or is that money basically gone?

Paypal is the worst place to deal with when it comes to money. My ID, ss card or birth certificate are not good enough to get into my account. Yesterday I called they told me to call back in 24 hours. I call back still nothing and they tell me to keep calling back. I sit on hold for 30 min everytime I call.

PayPal is usually good with incorrect or fraudulent charges until NOW. Used my PayPal to purchase a week hotel stay, when we arrived, the hotel is closed down and has been for over a year, I had to pay more as a last minute reservation at another hotel. Filed fraud claim, gave receipts, proof of closed hotel, and keep getting pushed out, “under review” for 4 months now. First they are refunding, then they want another copy of the same document again, then back to “review” again. No more PayPal for me! Closed my accounts.

PayPal credit card, not credit line for online, DOES NOT give confirmation number or give you acknowledgment of payment received after making your monthly payment. So naturally you will make another payment thinking that it didn't go through. I can't tell you how many times I've done this. Then when you call them they send you on a wild goose chase from one person to the next Department and you end up back with the original Department and they tell you that they can't take that payment off. This is their way of getting you to make double payments every month. I imagine some people make 3 payments and they probably don't even realize what has happened.

Today I tried to cancel my card & the woman just gave me a bunch of static. Real static. It was so loud I just hung up. They have all kinds of tricks. I've read other reviews of tricks that they've played and I believe it because they did it with me they put the static on they gave me the goose chase. I have decided to keep the account for a while longer because it's in my best interest to just pay the extra payment and deal with these people in another way.

I canceled a subscription last month, and I uninstalled their services and gave them my reasons. When I began their service I had a different bank card and they tried to use it. I had a new bank card and PayPal decides to use my new bank card without my permission and charged it (FRAUD) Then I was told by the customer service rep that this was apart of of their policy to just use an unauthorized card and make sure the merchant is satisfied! Then I gotta wait 3 to 5 days to get my money back( if it's approved) TF. I'm telling all social media's about this sorry company!

YOU were warned!! PayPal is a SCAM! I spent my life as a hard working Career Infantry Soldier. I have been repeatedly lied to by Paypal. Clearly Paypal had a predetermined list of excuses as to why Paypal was going to continue to hold my money, and NOT going to return it to me. AFTER a month of Paypal changing their reasons for keeping my money, I filed a dispute with the associated credit card company directly. Paypal is a SCAM.

First, they have one app for PayPal debit, cash back & credit. When you have a problem with anyone of their cards they pass the buck to the other. A transaction came through to debit, it wasn't an authorized payment. Instead of putting it through my bank account on file, they tried to put it through a bank account that was closed 2 years ago & wasn't even on my pay pal account for the 2 years. I started getting emails about owning my PP debit this large amount of money because they paid the transaction. I called PP & got told they would use my PP credit account to clear up the debit transaction. Ok...

I get a nasty phone call from PP debit saying they called to collect a debit. We explained to the guy that it was paid for out of my credit account by another rep. He said it wasn't... I called the credit department & they said it was misinformed, they have nothing to do with PP debit. So I called PP debit, they said to just pay it since it couldn't be paid by PP cash back or credit. So we tried to add money to PP debit from my bank account on file, but it would not let us. The error said there was a problem try again later. After 4 times we called PP debit again, she said do it while I'm on the phone. Well the same message popped up. She suggested that I have my wife or friend send me money to my PP debit account then I give it back to them.

So I did, after I checked back to make sure they got it, which they did, I got an email & text saying the payment is made from My checking account would be posted on June 2nd. So now their getting paid twice for the same transaction... My bank can't cancel that payment yet because it hasn't reached their system yet, I called PP debit & asked them to cancel the se and payment so it don't mess up my bank account & cost me fees. They said they couldn't...Another wonderful company that the left hand don't know what the right hand is doing...

Bought a SSD through eBay, turns out the capacity is fake, not as the advertised capacity. Lodge a case with PayPal, provided numerous pics of the capacity write errors. PayPal found in sellers favour. How the f can someone be able to sell fake capacity SSD on eBay and get away with it. This is the problem and why nothing will change. Since uninstalled eBay and thinking of closing my PayPal account also now, seeing as the protection they always promised it not actually true.

Terrible don’t trust PayPal in protecting your rights as a consumer. They claim they have consumer guarantee but they are dishonest. Despite the strong proofs and documentation I’ve provided to prove I had returned the order to Aliexpress who provided me with a return address in a clear communication but did not release my refund, PayPal refused my case saying this return was not approved by the seller “Aliexpress “! Then who gave the return address which was given to them as a srlcreenshot from Aliexpress order page in my account. How to understand the behavior of PayPal in resolving this matter when the seller now has the goods and the money as well? Where is the consumer right? PayPal claimed policy is “the money has to be with one party and the goods with the other party” but the is fake promise . I am closing my account . Look at all my transactions which they marked lost because their investigations is crab and not thorough. Disgusting behavior

Buyer beware - no protection from PayPal any more – PayPal used to be fantastic for buyer protection. Unfortunately, this no longer seems to be the case. I lodged a claim with them after receiving a smashed plasma ball via an online website. I lodged the case 2/12/24 and received a final outcome today 2/1/25. They required "You need to get a document (such as an estimate or invoice) from an unbiased third-party, such as a dealer, repair shop, appraiser, or another individual or organisation that is qualified in the area of the item in question" they also wanted "To continue with this investigation, a report must be filed with a law enforcement agency or government organisation". I don't think the police would have been impressed had I turn up asking for a police report that my purchase had arrived damaged. I'm totally perplexed at these responses to having received a broken item and damaged box. I provided photos of the broken item, explained that I don't know of any plasma ball repair shop to obtain a quote. I provided photos of my received item vs how it should look. My request for refund was denied.

VIDEO EVIDENCE DENIED??? – I have had problems with items missing from my orders from Sheen & every single time I take it further to PayPal my case gets denied. So I started recording opening all packages from Sheen & I had one I recordered from the outside of the package to opening & pulling each item out & then the empty package with 3 missing items, which you wouldn't have been able to miss as 2 were wedge shoes. I take my video evidence that no-one can dispute as its absolute foolproof evidence. Well ladies & gentlemen guess who had the case closed in favour of them??? You guessed it, Sheen... I got email after email, of questions that did not relate to my case, bullied by Sheen the ehole time & all the while PayPal had my VIDEO EVIDENCE of the missing items, stating "We closed the case in favour of Sheen as they provided proof of delivery"... Really, well guess what, I picked the package up too because the express shipping I paid an extra $20 for is actually only economy & I needed the order as I had a funeral to attend & needed clothes (as I'm moving overseas & my partner took most of my clothes so I didn't have pay for an extra check-in baggage), so I drove 45 minutes to pick it up & when I got home (as I now do from losing money & having no items to show for it), videoed the whole thing from start to finish & this as per usual is the very same response from PayPal that I get every single time I open a case for items not received, yet this time I have provided PROOF BY WAY OF VIDEO EVIDENCE, so PayPal what does proof of delivery (I delivered to myself) have to do with the 3 missing items, I gave you proof of not receiving??? PayPal have their payment method on Sheens website as an option, so they see it more important to close the case in favour of the company rather than the customer, unfortunately without us customers who choose to use PayPal they wouldn't have a service to put on a company website... I am sick & tired of being told the same excuse each time I open a case with them & now that I have proof, that can't be refused they still tried to, yes tried, as I will be taking the matter further... I have been using PayPal for all my payments for over 14 years & this is how I am treated & it's not ok & I will make sure that the right thing is done, not just for myself, but for all other customers who go through the same thing... I had my bank freeze my account due to a misunderstanding, it was sorted. I was informed by PayPal that my payments weren't going through. I called and spend 20 mins explaining to the woman what had happened. She looked it up and told me it will get sorted out now... Well 48 hours later I'm still getting messages telling me I owe $152.00. Why bother calling and trying to sort it out when they don't do what they claim to do. Useless. Now I have to call again. Great.

Been with PayPal for over 20 years and they were great, helped me out of a bad transaction several times but lately they don't seem to care. I had a cut and dry case where I didn't receive what I ordered with emails through eBay to prove. They closed the case it appears without even checking the facts. Other instances where they use this 30 day rule. As many others have pointed out, in Australia we are guaranteed a minimum 12 month warranty. Besides that, if a seller deliberately delays you on reaching an agreement they win! Goodbye PayPal, NO MORE COMMISSIONS THROUGH ME.

Paypal will permanently limit your account without warning and when you question them, they tell you that there is nothing that can be done about it. I have had 2 account limited and causing me problems with doing my job. I used paypal to buy computer parts from all over the globe to fix laptops and computers for my customers. They still don't care and won't say why they had decided to make their decision

Can PayPal be trusted with your bank details? Arguably No, does one question whether PayPal should be licenced to manage credit. My credit details were entrusted to Paypal to manage and under their stuardship money was taken from my accout without my knowledge or consent. Looking over a number of websites reviewing PayPal, customers with complaints are unsatisfied to a level of over 70%! The complaint / arbitration service is abysmal with what appears to clearly be automated requests and responses for further evidence/details/communication with vendor and evidence of non evidence ( a contract did not occur, nothing was purchased or provided as reported to PayPal but requests for further evidence of the contract! My fraudster seemingly named as “Trafficstars Network” looks like it has been named repeatedly by victims of fraud and yet PayPal continues the charade of “investigation” of their activity.

I had a company called PDF Guru claim money fraudulently which was paid out by PayPal. When I contacted PayPal requesting their assistance as I had paid out my money and not received the services that were charged for. PayPal immediately closed my account. I have written several emails requesting PayPal assist me and reopen my account. They just keep giving me information as to how to reopen my account to no avail. Not only have I lost my money to PDF Guru but also lost the ability to access my PayPal account and access my account information. I have used PayPal for many years believing they offered me some security regarding fraudulent claims. This is no longer the case and I shall never use this service again

I've been a PayPal user for over 10 years and have generally had no issues using my linked credit card for transactions, including Pay in 4 payments. However, my recent experience has been frustrating enough that I no longer see value in continuing to use PayPal. On March 31, 2025, a Pay in 4 payment was declined. PayPal claimed my bank was responsible for the decline, but after four separate calls to my bank, they confirmed that no attempt to process the payment was made. Strangely, non–Pay in 4 transactions with the same card continued to work without issue. When I removed the card (troubleshooting the issue) from PayPal and attempted to re-add it the next day, I was told that my bank was declining linking the card—again, my bank confirmed that no such request had been received.

I spent many hours over five days going back and forth between PayPal and my bank, with neither taking responsibility or offering a solution.

Adding to the frustration, I recently disputed a transaction for an item that was falsely advertised as 100% cotton but arrived as 100% polyester. Despite clear misrepresentation, PayPal ruled in favour of the seller, making me seriously question the reliability of their buyer protection policy.

At this point, I’ve lost trust in PayPal’s service. Between the lack of accountability regarding payment issues and the failure to uphold buyer protection, I can’t justify continuing to use their platform.

If you’re considering using PayPal for Pay in 4 transactions or relying on their buyer protection, be aware that resolving issues may be more frustrating than it’s worth.
